Devils Report Card 2013 Part 1 of 2

I'm going to issue an overall report card for the 2012-13 New Jersey Devils. In most cases, I’ll assign a letter grade — with a short explanation. Part 2 comes Monday.

Andy Greene was, perhaps,
the Devils best all-around
player in 2013. Agree?
2. Marek Zidlicky — D —Extremely inconsistent year.

5. Adam Larsson — C — Sophomore season wasn’t much better than last year, but it wasn’t a total disaster.

6. Andy Greene — A — The Devils’ best defenseman, and perhaps the most consistent overall player all year.

8. Dainius Zubrus — Inc. — Missed a good chunk of the year..

9. Jacob Josefson — Inc. — Wasn’t here much of the year.

10. Peter Harrold — C- — didn’t quite match last year‘s playoff success.

11. Stephen Gionta — A- — The little one showed up nightly. He didn’t score much, but his presence was felt nightly.

12. Alexei Ponikoravsky — D — His return to the Devils was useless. He did not have the impact he had last year. In fact, he had no impact whatsoever.

14. Adam Henrique — C — Had a decent start to the season, but in general, had a sophomore slump and didn’t come through when the team needed him to do so most.

15. Steve Sullivan — C — Wasn’t here long, but didn’t do anything post-trade deadline to improve the club.

16. Matt D’Agostini — D — Can’t think of a game where I could say he had an impact. At all.

17. Ilya Kovalchuk — B — Not a good season, not a bad season. Was out too long for my liking with his injury. In a former NHL, he wouldn’t have missed as many games as he did.

18. Steve Bernier — B — Had a few great games in what could have been a disastrous season. But he held it together after the hell of Game 6 of the 2012 Stanley Cup Finals.

19. Travis Zajac — F — Got a great new contract, and frankly, was as putrid as one could have asked for. This man didn’t earn his weight at all this season — and he’d better get in gear in 2013-14.
