Devils really not doing anything worthwhile in post-lockout marketing

So, during tonight's telecast, the Devils are touting full-season tickets for "just over $500." Did they happen to see the Florida Panthers are doing something similar — but for $168, which, unlike the Devils dead, includes parking for each game — and a jersey? I'm going to address this later on this weekend, but let's just say our team has not exactly scored with its "Get Back the Fans" gimmicks.

$500 for full-season tickets seems like a good deal — until you realize the Panthers are offering the same full-season tickets for $168.

GET BACK THE FANS: NHL Gamecenter Live will cost just $50 for the season, as will Center Ice

NHL Gamecenter Live, which allows fans to watch games on computer and various other devices, will cost just $49.99 for the entire 2013 season. Patrons can pay at once — or in two installments. There is no discount for paying up front.

This equates to about $12.50 a month. Last year, the cost was about $25 a month — so there is a significant drop in price.

I know I will personally buy the package, which offers up to 40 out-of-market games a week in HD (the NHL Center Ice package (which will also be $49.99 for the entire year), on most cable and satellite networks, isn't offered in HD). Plus, the Gamecenter package allows subscribers the option of watching games on phones, tablets and some game consoles.

'Get Back the Fans': Pittsburgh offers free food vouchers, 15-consecutive giveaways

The Penguins seem to get it, like the Panthers, that there's a need to work hard to win back the fans after the lockout. The Pens' first 15 home games are promotional nights — and the first few home games feature free concessions, where all fans attending will get three vouchers for any food/drink items. (Not sure if alcoholic beverages are included there). Well done, Pittsburgh. Other than the Pens and Panthers, not much else has been announced that is worth mentioning. (Side note: If you missed the earlier post, Gary Bettman says NHL Center Ice and Gamecenter Live will be heavily discounted — not free. It can't be, he says, because of the partnerships involved in distributing the games).

New series: Best 'Get Back the Fans' Gimmicks. First stop, Florida

So teams are going to be doing a lot — you'd think — to get fans back into the seats for regular season games. So here at NJDevsBlog.com, we'll be taking a look at some of the best from across the league.

We start with the Florida Panthers, who are offering season tickets for $7 a game — or, $168 per ticket for 24 games — in the upper tier. That cost includes free parking for every home game, and a free home Panthers jersey.

Right off the bat, it's going to be hard to find a better deal than this.
