Cashen almost made Francesa assistant GM, broadcaster

Francesa
We may want to file this one under one of the most absurd of all time.

Thanks to BobsBlitz.com, we can report to you that on yesterday’s show, Mike Francesa announced that in the late ’80s, former and late New York Mets General Manager J. Frank Cashen offered him two positions — as assistant general manager and as a member the broadcasting team.

Mike, of course, knowing at the time how successful Mike & The Mad Dog would become (the show was in its infancy at the time, he says), declined Cashen’s offer.

“I want to stay on the air,” he said. “I want to stay at the FAN.”

You have to see this to believe it.

Happy to announce my affiliation with BobsBlitz.com

FROM PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. —

I am very happy to announce today my new affiliation with the great website Bob’s Blitz -- over at www.BobsBlitz.com. I have the great title of “Senior Writer,” one of the few I’ve actually never held officially before in two-plus decades in journalism.

I’ve known Bob for many years now -- and have always been a huge fan of his work. On the site, you’ll find pop-culture, sports, etc., that you just rarely find elsewhere. There is a lot of Mike Francesa material, Boomer & Carton stuff, hot babes, crazy Youtube finds and so much more.

I hope you’ll check out not just my stuff there, but all the work Bob puts into the site on daily-except-for-Sunday basis. I think you will like what you see -- especially if you’re a sports fan or sports-radio fan in New York City or North Jersey.

Cheers!

Caller names 2 fake LA Kings, Francesa has no ‘ideer’ he’s being punked by the caller

NEW YORK —

This is priceless. A caller calls Mike Francesa, of WFAN, goes on to name two faux Kings -- and of course, Mike wouldn’t know the difference anyway. I might expect this from Tony Paige, but his Holiness? You know he doesn’t know what to say when he begins asking little callers questions. Have a look.
