Bernier nets 2 in 3-0 win on Long Island

UNIONDALE, N.Y.

Maybe it's just because I like underdogs.

A few months ago, most, if not all Devils fans, were ready to send Steve Bernier packing after his 5-minute penalty in Game 6 of the Finals.

And now, just two weeks into the new season, he has three goals — all against the Islanders — including two in a very tough game the Devils won, 3-0, at Long Island this afternoon.

And I must also admit — I love when the Moose, Johan Hedberg, plays. This guy looks nothing of his age — 40 — and I never worry when he's in the net. The guy is a no. 1 goalie anywhere else. He's now 1-0-1 in his two starts.

Nice win — and now, it's time for the commercials in the Super Bowl.

Bernier scores his second goal in under 2 minutes in the third period of today's game.

Martin Brodeur and Adam Henrique congratulating the Moose on his first win — and shutout — of the 2013 season.

VIDEO: Opening Night player introductions at the Rock

Thanks to the Devils for posting this since NBCSN didn't carry it.

Some interesting moments:

The introduction of Stefan Matteau was great. Also, very proud of the hand for Steve Bernier (that could have been very ugly).

Also, great hands for Scott Stevens and Peter DeBoer — both well deserved.

Enjoy.

What happens when Steve Bernier is introduced at the Rock?

Steve Bernier

I must admit — I'd found a way to forget about this.

Perhaps it's because I felt it was wrong to place total blame on Steve Bernier for the Devils losing Game 6 of the Final against Los Angeles. It was his first-period major boarding penalty that led to a quick, three-goal deficit the Devils couldn't recover from.

But Rich Chere, of the Star-Ledger, brings it up in this piece. I personally hope Bernier gets a nice hand — and something tells me he will. But what say you? Does Bernier deserve to hear it from the fans at home? Is all forgotten by now? Discuss away — you don't even have to register to post here.
