PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. —

Retro night was one of the most popular promo nights of the last three seasons. During those years, where attendance wasn't as strong as it is now, the games always drew well (all three sold out). Bringing back Bob Arsena the last two years to do PA announcing (Bob was the original PA announcer and he did it from 1982 until the first lockout) and using the classic Devils' goal horn really added an even better touch.
Now, I understand Lou Lamoriello isn't a huge fan of third sweaters. In fact, in reality, the Devils have had a more consistent uniform look than the Yankees have, having made one major change ever, dropping green for black. And I am glad the Devils never added a third jersey as almost every other NHL team has, at one point (or thrice).
But this is absurd.
It's once a year, Lou. And it's popular.
And there's no reason why the retro night, which always coincided well with St. Patrick's Day, can't happen this season.
If it's not to be Saturday — make it happen. At some point.
It's the right thing to do.
