SUMMER SERIES: My 10 favourite Doc Emrick Devils calls of all time — #10 — ‘Seemingly Harmless’
Let's start it off with No. 10 — First Round, 1995. We’ll call this one SEEMINGLY HARMLESS. (You’ll see why after watching it). Also notice how Jacques Lemaire almost looks disappointed, shaking his head with a smirk about.
I remember this game, not just because of the way it ended, but because I was supposed to be there for it — but a friend’s credit card got declined AFTER Ticketmaster told us the tickets were paid for. Glad I didn’t make the 180-mile car trip from Newport, R.I., to Jersey.
The game sold out (a rarity for Round 1 post-seasons games at that time) and I wound up watching it on television — though via the Bruins telecast on WSBK since I was in Newport, R.I.
Peter McNab is the voice you hear screaming “They did it!” Blaine Lacher is the Bruins’ goaltender at the time. The game had no goals and was in OT-1.

16 years later it hit me: I saw Patrik Elias's first goal in person
BOSTON —
It was Dec. 12, 1996 — and I was at what was known as the Fleet Center for Devils/Bruins. I was there because I ran a trip at my college in Newport, R.I., to "see the Bruins." And today, while searching Youtube, I found Patrik Elias's first-ever goal (he was wearing 22 at the time). It was that very night. And 16 years later, it hit me I was there to see it.
By pure chance, I was also at Devils-Bruins in New Jersey on March 26, 1992. Remember what happened that night?

Bruins move game tomorrow from 1 to 7 p.m., and for some reason, the Devils aren't moving theirs (stupidly)
The Boston Bruins understand weather.
The New Jersey Devils, clearly, do not.
The Bruins moved tomorrow's game from 1 to 7 p.m. because of the weather. But it appears the Devils will keep tomorrow's game at 1 p.m., which is as foolish as it could be.
By not moving the game time, the Devils are all but ensuring a 1987-like "334 Club" game at 1 p.m.
And by not moving the game, the Devils are putting the fans who do decide to venture to the game — it's already sold out — in danger, unnecessarily.
Do the right thing, Devils — move the game to 7 p.m.
Now.

Islanders acquire Tim Thomas from Boston in salary-dump move
UNIONDALE, N.Y. —

Tim Thomas |
Thomas has said he would not play this season so he could
Looks like a salary dump/cap move on the Bruins' part. Thomas's salary counted toward the ceiling for the Bruins this season, even though he isn't playing.
I can't envision Thomas coming back this season or, for that matter, ever playing on the Island. But perhaps there's more to this than we yet know. If we learn any more, we'll share it here, of course.

Bruins 4-0-1, Devils 3-0-1, but only one team is 'Red Hot'
The NHL.com staff really doesn't like the Devils, does it?
The Bruins have one more win than the Devils — both are undefeated in regulation — but the Bruins are "Red Hot" and the Devils are, well, the Devils.
Here's a look.
Oh, by the way, the Devils are at the TD Garden tonight at 7 p.m. ET to play the Bruins. Watch the game on MSG-Plus in Jersey, NESN in New England, or on Gamecenter Live / Center Ice if you're out of the area.

Apparently, since the Bruins have one more win than the Devils, they're 'red hot.' |

Tim Thomas threatens to return to NHL for 2013-14

Tim Thomas, R. |
BOSTON —
Despite Thomas's refusal to play this season, his $5 million salary, which he won't get, will count against the Bruins' salary cap, unless the team decides to trade him. He has one year left on his current contract.
