Not Devils But Sports: MLB overkills it with July 4 caps

Last night, all Major League Baseball teams that played — and somehow on the 4th of July, two teams had an off-day — worse caps like the one you see here on Terry Collins. They were all red, white and blue and had this gigantic star behind the team logo.

For starters, the star looks like the Houston Astros cap — so every single team looked, in one sense, like it was wearing their cap.

But beyond that, these caps — and the gimmicky uniforms of other holidays, like Memorial Day — are just ridiculous.

Red, white and blue hats with the Pirates black and yellow uniforms?

Red, white and blue hats with the strong orange component to the Mets uniforms?

I understand why MLB is doing this — to make money — but I can’t fathom how they say it’s to honor the country. It’s nothing short of anything other than to make money.

But this is just bordering on the absurd. The camo jerseys the teams wore for Memorial Day were hideous. The caps were hideous. And yet, when the Mets ask, every single year on Sept. 11 to wear the caps donning the logos on the FDNY, NYPD, PAPD and EMS, they’re told to piss off by Joe Torre and his minions.

That will never make any sense.

I just wish baseball would stop with this nonsense.

I won’t be holding my breath whilst waiting.
