2013 prediction: I won't make predictions

As we inch toward Opening Day in the NHL, I will make one prediction — I won't be making predictions on this site.

I hate predictions.

I despise predictions, actually.

And never was it more apparent than last year.

ESPN and its so-called hockey experts, each round, would list their predictions in a graphic on their website.

I believe 11 of 12 said the Devils would lose to Philly.

All 12 said they'd lose to the Rangers.

And thankfully, they were mostly wrong.

I could sit here until I was blue in the face, using statistics, rosters and logic — and it would make not one difference. There's no way to tell who will get hurt. There's no way to tell who has a break-out season. There's no way to determine whether a goalie has it.

So I will continue to avoid predictions —now and always — and I won't link to them, either, unless they're particularly egregious (like any time ESPN's Linda Cohn, a Rangers fan, ventures into predicting anything).

But I will say this — at 7 p.m. Eastern time on Saturday, Jan. 19, I know where I'll be. And I hope you'll be doing the same, too.

Enjoying the first set of hockey games since June.

If that's not reason enough to celebrate, I'm not sure what is.

ADDENDUM

One last reason why I hate predictions? This dope below (BM) picked Rangers/Wild for the finals. I think that's enough on its own to understand why I hate predictions.
