A few thoughts about the 2014-15 schedule ...

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. —

There are a few things about the 2014-15 schedule that struck me. Among them are:

• The Devils do not play a single matinée all season long, home or away. I cannot recall this ever happening before. Of course, that could change, depending on NBC’s flex scheduling.

• The Devils play in my home state of Florida twice the first week of the season. I may get to see Games 2 and 3 of the season in person.

• I like playing the Western Conference teams twice, but it just doesn’t seem right the Devils play the Islanders Flyers and Rangers only four times in the regular season.

This guy visits NJ Nov. 11.
• The Devils play the Rangers Dec. 27 at Madison Square Garden. This is close to returning to a long-time tradition. For many years, the Devils and Rangers played at MSG the day after Christmas, but the league is currently shut on Dec. 26. This is the first post-Christmas MSG matchup in recent memory.

• The Devils, in addition to practically starting the season in Florida, also finish it here. They play at Tampa April 9 and in Sunrise April 11 to close out the regular season.

• The Stanley Cup Champs come to town once, March 23.

• Zach Parise will spend Nov. 11 in Newark.

• The Devils play 16 back-to-back games -- again, an absurdly high number.

• The Devils play one game before 7 p.m. ET all season long, on March 8 vs. Philadelphia at 5 p.m.
