Canadiens send Gomez home; he won't play anywhere

Gomez

The Montreal Canadiens have sent Scott Gomez home, meaning he won't play in the NHL this season — or anywhere else for that matter. Think of Gomez what you will, but this is a bizarre situation.

He'll be paid more than $7 million to stay home. And if there was any interest by any other league of signing him to play, he couldn't for buyout/salary-cap hit reasons.

On one hand, he should just shut up and collect his paycheck. On the other hand, hockey players do not like just sitting around if they're not prepared to retire.

Should be interesting to see what transpires here.
